Highlight: College
It feels like the first 6 months of this year have flown by! After a well-earned, and thankfully relaxing, break, I’ve started up semester 2 at Youthworks College. Excitingly, on Tuesdays, all four of us MTS-ers get to have lunch together at Moore – Helen and Nicholas for Cornhill and Nathan for a unit at Moore!
This semester my unites are ‘The Psalter’ and ‘Sexuality and Identity’, as well as the second half of Intergenerational Ministry.
Some Random Highlights from Semester 1:
- Bonhoeffer! I read ‘Life Together’ for a subject I did this year and now I’m obsessed with everything he has to say
- Reading Revelation as a constant downward spiral of the state of our world
- And being reminded that Jesus has overcome the world!
- Learning that church history can be fun
- Especially when you get to see how God’s church continues to thrive in the face of opposition
- And especially when this reminds you of God’s constant and unfailing faithfulness to his people!

Learning
A couple weeks ago, I told Carmen in one of my meetings how I finally feel a normal tired! This is such good news!! As opposed to feeling like I’m drowning or never wanting to leave bed, I actually just look forward to going home after my work week and spending time with the family. It’s been a bumpy ride getting used to my new schedule and the increased travel time, but I finally feel like all my goals are achievable.
I’ve had to learn to reflect on my own capacity and be honest about when I’m struggling. As a people pleaser, saying no to things is something I constantly struggle with, but I’m learning how important it is to do it! Most of all, this has been an excellent reminder that I am not Jesus, that I cannot do everything, and that I need to let him look after his church!
Thankful For:
- A good semester at college, and many things to take away from my learning
- Being able to study God’s word at Youthworks College
- Being able to trust that Jesus will look after his church when we can’t
Pray for:
- This semester of College, that it would be as fruitful as the last
- Me to be constantly reminded of my weakness and Jesus’ strength
- God to use all my training to help me to know and love him more
