Preeti’s March Update

Updates from the Past Month

Hello from Preeti!

The last two months have been very busy, I’m feeling quite overwhelmed by life and ministry, and trying to hold everything in balance! With the busyness of things starting up for the year, settling into college and kids ministries and planning a wedding, I’m learning that this is just a busy period of life at the moment. Through it all, I am learning how much God works in spite of me!

Here are some things I’ve been up to in the last couple of weeks:

SRE

This year we were lucky enough to get into the schools for SRE quite early on in the year! Praise God! I have two classes this year – kindy at Parramatta West and K-2 at Parramatta Central.

For this first term, we have been focusing on Jesus, who is the powerful Son of God, learning about the miracles that Jesus did, and the greatest miracle – victory over death! Some of my kids at PWPS are hearing these stories and learning about what God has done through Jesus, for the first time!! I’m really encouraged by two kids, who have learned that Jesus died so that we can be friends with God forever, even though we do the wrong things!

College

One of the units I’m doing at college this year is ‘Children’s Ministry Skills’. For the first term, we have been learning different practical skills to engage kids! Some skills we have worked through are:

  • Pictures (visual aids)
  • Verbal storytelling
  • Drama
  • Puppets
  • Song

I have really enjoyed learning about and even practising some of these skills in our lectures, and I feel more confident and capable to use them in kids church and SRE!

Easter

This year I got to give all of the kids talks over the Easter long weekend. Because I knew I would be doing this from the beginning of the year, I really wanted to involve some of the older kids in the Easter talk. So, about a month before Easter Sunday, I got the year 4-5 girls to plan out what they wanted in a kids talk – to dump all their wild and crazy and fun ideas onto the board. We ended up making a huge scrapbook, that told the story of easter, and the girls got to retell the story on the stage!

I was really encouraged by their love and enthusiasm to share what they knew to be true, and to be brave enough to do it in front of the whole church!

Prayer Points

Thanks for:
  • The busy start to term going well
  • My SRE classes, and the kids being able to learn about who Jesus is
  • The year 4/5 girls at St. John’s
Pray for:
  • Me to manage the busyness of life well
  • More opportunities to be reminded of Jesus coming back
