Kicking off Friday Hangs
In March, our youth ministry kicked off Friday Hangs again! The last time we ran it was in June 2021 before the lockdown period so our team was ready to go. One challenge that we had running it this term was that the number of students coming to our Scripture classes (where they mostly came from) was significantly lower compared to last year due to varying reasons. I had a hunch that not many students were going to come which became reality, we had 2, 6 and 7 students over the three weeks.
To be honest, it was a little bit discouraging that it didn’t get to start off like it did last year, but I was reminded that running things faithfully and prayerfully were more important than just numbers. It also taught me that patience and perseverance was key in evangelism, and building relationships with the students who did come was never a waste of time. I was extremely thankful to God for the team (led by one of my 1-1 guys Erick) who were still keen to serve joyfully. Please pray that God would bring Scripture kids to class for us to keep reaching out to in Term 2 and that they may turn to Jesus as their Lord!
Learning to be a Weak Servant
One personal reflection over this past month was my continued learning of serving whilst feeling weak. My older brother had gotten married recently which was a great blessing for him and the family! This has meant a need to step up more to serve my parents as well as adjust to the new family dynamic. Alongside this, there’ve been relatively big chats with my girlfriend Katherine about the future. At times it’s felt like my headspace has felt cluttered/heavy with different things going on and a feeling of being weak alongside my other responsibilities. But by God’s kindness, He’s enabled me to keep turning to Him in those moments which feel hard and rely on Him for strength. I’m still working out this season but it’s shown me that when things feel hectic with my personal life, God still remains good! We should ‘consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.’ Please pray that God would continue to provide wisdom and help me grow in my godliness even when circumstances aren’t ideal.
